Explore the method

Understand the intersection, prepare the discussion and retain the reasons behind a decision. Find practical guidance, frequently asked questions and the published frameworks here.

Two axes, one decision

Business Readiness Score (BRS) examines commercial viability: product, market, business model, team and ability to deliver.

HUMICS — Humanity, Intelligence, Collaboration, Synergy — examines human alignment: ethics, effects on people, responsible innovation, the environment and financial sustainability.

Their intersection in the matrix brings tensions into the discussion. It informs one shared decision: proceed, rework, stop, or reject a project despite its commercial promise. Reasons and conditions are recorded. Detailed rules and assessment scales are available in the downloadable frameworks.

For your role and your organisation

Leadership, risk and compliance, technical teams, investors or advisers: each contributes evidence to the same case. A project or a portfolio can be examined using shared criteria without erasing disagreements.

At an organisational level, the work also involves training reviewers, documenting each assessment and comparing interpretations across teams. Decisions and their reasons help track projects over time. The initial 45-minute discussion concerns one project; a portfolio requires a jointly agreed scope.

The method

Examine. Debate. Decide.
Keep the record.

Bring a concrete project. We examine what is established, what is missing and what deserves discussion.

01

Examine

Business Readiness Score (BRS) examines commercial viability. HUMICS — Humanity, Intelligence, Collaboration, Synergy — examines human alignment.

02

Debate

Their intersection in the matrix reveals tensions. Evidence, uncertainty and disagreements are discussed together.

03

Decide

The committee decides, with its reasons and conditions. The matrix informs the decision; it does not make it.

04

Keep the record

Record the evidence examined, disagreements, decision and reasons so the case can be revisited and explained later.

Commercial viability

Human alignment

Two axes, one matrix: their intersection informs four possible outcomes, including declining a profitable project.

Six months later,
recover the reasons.

Revisit a project, explain a decision to management or present evidence to an auditor or regulator: the record shows what was examined and why the decision was made.

A documented record, not a guarantee of compliance. This fictional example illustrates a deliberation, not the output of the mini-scan or of the 45-minute conversation alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does BRS/HUMICS help my CSR / ESG effort?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) work can benefit from a documented case: evidence examined, disagreements and a reasoned decision. This record can contribute to sustainability work; it is neither a complete report nor a statement of compliance.

What does HUMICS stand for?

Humanity, Intelligence, Collaboration, Synergy: the name states the ambition of the framework — to assess whether an AI deployment aligns with what holds a society together, not merely its compliance.

Is this a label or a certification?

No. These are open reference frameworks; there is no certifying body.

How does this relate to the AI Act or the ISO standards?

Legal obligations, management standards and this method serve different purposes. BRS and HUMICS structure deliberation about a project; their intersection and the retained record do not replace legal assessment or a compliance audit. Consult the applicable texts and qualified professionals for your situation.

Does the tool decide for me?

No. The matrix proposes a reading; the decision stays with the committee, which may depart from it with stated reasons. The tool then makes that choice traceable and defensible — it is a deliberation framework, not an automaton.

How are they validated?

They make no such claim. The validation agenda is falsifiable and preregistered on OSF; refutations are invited.

Can I reuse or adapt them?

Yes, under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license (attribution + share-alike). For embedded commercial use (proprietary tools, white-label) or a partnership, a dedicated license is available — get in touch. “BRS Business Readiness Score” and “HUMICS” are the subject of a trademark filing.

What are the scores based on?

Anchored observables and an N/S rule for missing data; two readings, -A (adaptive) and -N (neutral).

How can I test or contribute?

The protocol is open on OSF (osf.io/avhw8); get in touch for feedback or co-authorship.

Open frameworks and a testing protocol

The frameworks, matrix and testing protocol are publicly accessible. Publication makes the method open to examination and criticism; it does not demonstrate effectiveness. Results and limits of future tests will need to be documented. Have a substantiated objection? Write to david.desroses@brs-humics.com.
